Our number 1 intention is to provide a safe space for young athletes in the Annapolis Valley to fall in love and stay in love with the game of basketball.
We want to fulfill the sport’s potential to meet the needs of anyone involved, whatever their level or experience with the game of basketball. We will meet this goal through innovative thinking, games-based teaching, and positive coaching.
Our Ambition
The two primary ambitions of our club are:
To initiate a new and improved system of development and a clear talent pathway for everyone in the Annapolis Valley.
To have more players playing and continuing to play basketball throughout their childhood at a level that is appropriate for their interest and abilities.
Athlete Development Model
1. ENJOYMENT
Playing basketball is fun and should be a sport that people can participate in for life. Axe Basketball club will provide safe playing environments where players can achieve their personal aspirations - from participation and recreation, to performance.
2. LEARNING
We want to help develop motivated players with a sustained sense of knowing basketball, their role, and their involvement in the sport. Learning environments based around positive coaching and games-based teaching keep kids excited to come back to learn more.
3. TALENT
We will have adaptable and repeatable systems at each age and stage along the pathway to properly support and encourage the development of all athletes and encourage lifelong participation of all those who pick up a basketball to play in line with their interest and aptitude.
4. CHARACTER THROUGH SPORT
We believe that building positive attitudes and personal character is a key purpose of sport generally. Through demonstration and teaching we will show our athletes how to enjoy competition in a healthy manner, develop a positive self-image, and show respect for all those they interact with. This same standard will be universally applied to all coaches involved in the club as well.
